This tin lithographed toy truck was made in the U.S.S.R. It uses a key-wind mechanism to power the truck wheels which spin really fast to take the truck on quite a ride. The wheels, including a spare tire, are plastic, as well as, the roll bar and side mirrors. The well lithographed body is all tin and has labeling with M8 and ABTOMOGNAB, NOHU. It’s Russian and translates as “Automobile Pony”, which makes sense as the truck is like the mule or pony of the old days. The large tin truck measures 7” Long x 4” Wide x 5” High and comes in a clear bag with a Russian header. The truck was either made in the Orlyonok or Tekhnika factories which produced quality tin lithographed toys on high gauge metal. Tekhnika operated for many years in Leningrad and moved to St. Petersburg in 1991. Orlyonok was in Moscow. The factories were plagued with rising cost and serious competition from Chinese manufacturers and finally went bankrupt.
These trucks would date from the 1980s to mid 1990s. We have a very limited supply and when there gone, we will not be able to get more. This toy is for collectors, not for children.
